Course Description

Overview: 

Students enrolling in this course will learn the basics for creating and modifying images for use in Web pages, word-processing files and presentation programs.

Benefits: 

After taking this course, students will be able to create, edit, and format images,  save images in different formats and use images in different programs,.

Target student: 

The target student for this course is someone who is comfortable with the Windows environment and the mouse. A basic knowledge of word-processing and common Windows-based programs is helpful.

Performance-Based Objectives

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Describe different image file types and their benefits.
Open an image file.
Modify the entire image or portions of it, including selection of image areas.
Save an image file in different file types.
Use images in PowerPoint and extend that knowledge to other programs.

Course Content

Lesson 1: Types of Images

BMP: large and dense, sometimes too large to handle well
JPEG/JPG: moderate size, usually good quality, very common
GIF: usually smaller size, supports transparency and animation, but limited color palette
WMF/EMF/ClipArt: usually smaller, often cartoon-like, most can be disassembled and re-colored easily
TIFF: generally similar to GIF
